Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Dr. Sonawane Savita Dattatraya

The Department Pharmaceutical Chemistry was established with the establishment of Fabtech College of Pharmacyfrom academic session 2019-2020. Pharmaceutical chemistry is one of the core branches of pharmacy which comprises the study of physical and chemical properties of drugs. The Department is having threePharmaceutical Chemistrylaboratories withone additional Central Instrumentation room. All labs are well equipped with sophisticated and advanced instruments like HPLC, UV-Visible spectrophotometers, Muffle Furnace, Water Deionizer, Fuming cupboard, Conductometer, pH meter, Fluorimeter, Distillation unit,Melting Point Apparatus, Distillation unit, Melting Point Apparatus etc. There is sufficient space for every student to work in the laboratory about 20 students can do practical at a glance. The course covers the use of quantitative and qualitative analysis, as well as the synthesis of different compounds and formulation assay of different compounds. The department offers outcome-based education and training in a range of areas, including synthesis using conventional and green chemistry methods, spectral characterization, and pharmacological assessment of small molecules.

These areas include drug discovery employing bioinformatics and computational tools. For undergraduate students enrolled in the four-year B program, the department of pharmaceutical chemistry taking practical on topics related to Medicinal Chemistry I, Pharmaceutical Analysis,Medicinal Chemistry II, Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry II, Biochemistry,Quality Assurance etc. All of the equipment required for the synthesis and qualitative-quantitative analysis of organic compounds are available through the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. At the first and second year levels, the department works on the identification of inorganic and organic molecules. At the third and final year levels, it monitors organic reactions and synthesizes chemical entities. Also focuses on developing HPLC methods and drug microanalysis techniques, among other things.
