Department of Pharmacognosy
Prof. Amol V. Pore
The Department Pharmacognosy was established with the establishment of Fabtech College of Pharmacyfrom academic session 2019-2020. The study of medications derived from plants and other natural sources is known as Pharmacognosy. Plant components are identified, extracted, isolated, and characterized as part of the study, and their pharmacological effects are examined in this department. The Department is having one Pharmacognosy laboratory. The labis equipped with all sophisticated and advanced instruments likeCamera Lucida, dissection microscope, moisture balance, hot-air oven, analytical balance, muffle furnace, chromatography cabinet, heating plate, heating mental, and water bath etc. In this department the students develop their ability to distinguish between adulteration and crude drugs. Additionally, students learn how to make extract, purify it, and determine the phytoconstituents present in it.
The Department of Pharmacognosy is actively involved in multidisciplinary and interdepartmental research studies on herbal cosmetics, quality control, and standardization of herbal drugs.
Additionally, studies are conducted to determine the effectiveness of standardized herbal drugs and extracts in treating cancer, metabolic disorders, and diabetes. The department's highly qualified teaching members strive to improve students' understanding of the identification, standardization, formulation development and assessment of crude pharmaceuticals.Facilities for the identification, extraction, isolation, and characterization of crude medicines are provided by this department. Additionally, this area offers sufficient space for the creation and standardization of herbal formulations.
